Geotechnical News
Technical articles of more general interest will be welcomed by the editorial staff of
Geotechnical News. You are encouraged to communicate directly with Geotechnical News if
you have technical or professional ideas that need to be explored. Editorial policy is
flexible and welcoming. Apart from containing interesting technical papers, Geotechnical
News also serves as the Newsletter publication for all North American Geotechnical
Societies (USA, Canada and Mexico). All Society members receive the four issues of
Geotechnical News annually as part of their membership fee.
CGS VIRTUAL ARCHIVES
There is a rich and largely untapped resource in Canada of files containing historical
information on geotechnical laboratory and field research, geotechnical investigations,
work of committees, geotechnical experience etc. Ways to identify and tap this resource
have been developed by the Heritage Committee of the Society in the form of a virtual
archives web page. The page gives the location and content of accessible historical
geotechnical material.
Members of CGS, and others, are invited to submit candidate projects for consideration.
The submission should give the location of the material, a description of its nature and
content, its historical significance and conditions under which it can be accessed.
Samples of suitable layouts, typically about one page of text, are given on following web
pages. Do not submit actual archival material as the Society has no space in which to
store it. CDs of scanned photographs, drawings etc. will be welcomed).
Your contribution to the CGS Virtual Archives web pages should be sent to the Chair of the
Committee:
