Corporate Sponsorship Program

The Canadian Geotechnical Society (CGS) represents geo-professionals across Canada as the primary technical society for access to technical information, technical journals and other related activities. The Society has a membership exceeding 1200 engineers, hydrogeologists, geologists and other related professionals. Members are employed in consulting companies, universities, resource development companies, government and non-government agencies, and others.

For many years, raising costs and requests for additional member services, while at the same time demanding close control on membership fees, has challenged the CGS like other learned societies. Hence, sources of additional income to support the work of the CGS are necessary.

The CGS is now offering companies an opportunity to receive a new set of services and benefits through a Corporate Sponsorship program. This program, although nominal in cost, will provide significant benefits to sponsors. These benefits include the following:

• Use of the CGS logo on corporate literature in combination with the following phrase “Corporate Sponsor of the Canadian Geotechnical Society”.
• Recognition as a Corporate Sponsor of the Society in Geotechnical News, and at the annual geotechnical conference.
• Recognition as a Corporate Sponsor on a new page of the CGS Website, including inclusion of the company’s logo and a ‘hotlink’ from the CGS website to the company website.
• Opportunities to gain preferential placement of exhibitors at the annual conference. Other benefits as they are developed in partnership with sponsors.

To be clear, there are several things the Corporate Sponsorship is not. First, it is not a donation. It is in the form of an expense, having better tax benefits to the corporation than a donation. Second, it is not a membership fee, nor is it a membership class in the Society. Employees of Corporate Sponsors will still gain the benefits of the CGS through individual memberships.

The cost of the Corporate Sponsorship program has been made particularly attractive considering the benefits offered. For Corporations with less than 20 geo-professionals on staff, the cost is only $500 per year. For Corporations with more than 20 geo-professionals on staff, the cost is only $1000 per year. Companies with offices in more than one location may purchase more than one sponsorship. The Sponsorship period is from July to June each year. Payment will be by invoice from the CGS.
