CGS-Geotechnical Info Net is pleased to feature the CGS 2016 Awardees. In this issue, Dr. Guy Doré, winner of the 2016 Roger JE Brown Award of the CGS Cold Regions Geotechnology Division, is featured. Guy’s citation reads:
“Dr. Guy Doré is being honoured as an outstanding and innovative permafrost researcher who works on strategies to prevent and manage highway permafrost damage in northern regions. Dr. Doré is a world-renowned specialist for his original work on permafrost behavior and road infrastructure.
Dr. Doré is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Water Engineering at Université Laval, where he currently holds the position of N-SERC Industrial Research Chair on Heavy Loads, Weather and Pavement Interaction. As the Chair, he leads a team that works extensively with industry and various government agencies. He has authored and co-authored numerous publications on pavements in cold regions, effects of freeze-thaw cycles and on the interaction between permafrost and transportation infrastructure. He is co-author of Cold Regions Pavement Engineering, the only text dedicated to pavement engineering in cold climate. In addition, Dr. Doré has developed innovative mitigation technologies, including heat drains that have been successfully applied to northern transportation infrastructure. He serves on several national and international committees on cold regions engineering and spearheaded Transport Canada’s initiative for a network of expertise on northern infrastructure. The quality of his work is recognized, once again, by the award given to him by the CGS.
The Cold Regions Geotechnology Division is pleased to recognize CGS member Dr. Guy Doré with the 2016 Roger JE Brown Award.”
