Stem Montessori Academy of Canada – National Leadership Program

The Stem Montessori Academy of Canada (SMAC) are inviting you to invest some time in community outreach to females, visible minorities, and students from underserved communities interested in STEM education and career opportunities through the SMAC National Leadership Program. This is a great opportunity to give back, share your wisdom, and invest in the future of our profession.

SMAC is looking for virtual speakers or "STEM Ambassadors" to lend some time to these students for an inspirational leadership chat. Program participation and opportunities to get involved are listed below*.

1. One-Time Workshop / Training / Talk

An individual may participate by putting together a one-time STEM-related segment of choice: 30-45 minutes lecture, workshop, training session, or learning opportunity - followed by a 15-30 minute Q&A by students. (Total time approx. 1hour)

2. Learning Series - Group or Individual

An individual or group of individuals may participate by putting together a STEM- focused series of choice (2 session minimum - 6 session maximum) to be run on a weekly basis for students of any level between grades 5-12. Sessions may be created as one session for each grade level.

3. Motivational Video

A motivational video address – leadership focused (any duration of time) made for students to promote self-confidence, academic motivation, leadership or lend advice about any STEM-related topic.

4. Become A Mentor

Ongoing student mentorship once per month for 20-30 minutes to a small group of students from February 2021 to June 2021 to support their academic endeavors and road to post-secondary education. Total time investment 6-8 hours total spread over 5 months.

*An individual willing to participate may choose any number of the above, as they are not limited to only one choice.

Available Levels:

Level 1: Grade 5/6

Level 2: Grade 7/8

Level 3: Grade 9/10

Level 4: Grade 11/12
