A Communication Task Force (CTF) was formed following GeoOttawa 2017 and has issued its report on the future of the CGS technical magazine, Geotechnical News. The report was approved for implementation by the CGS Board of Directors at its September 23 meeting in Edmonton. Recommendations include: increasing the number of technical topics, improving graphic design while maintaining technical integrity, and maintaining access to back issues. A new editorial model was also proposed – we are pleased to announce that Lisa McJunkin, Director of Communications and Member Services, will become the publisher of the new magazine starting January 2020. A smooth transition from the current magazine to the new one is underway with the support of BiTech, the current publisher.
In its present form, Geotechnical News has seen some changes in the last year with the addition of a new section “From the CGS Board” edited by CGS Past President Doug Van Dine. The new section has featured several articles from the Divisions, Committees and Sections as a trial for the implementation of new sections in the forthcoming version of the magazine.
In December 2018, the current editor of the CGS News section in Geotechnical News, Don Lewycky, will step down after serving two terms (six years). Thank you, Don! Your contributions and sustained efforts to report on CGS business and activities have been very much appreciated. We would like to welcome and thank Nicholas Beier who will take on the role of CGS News editor starting in January 2019.
